As a C.P.R.S (certified peer recovery specialist) my goal is to come alongside the youth of Chisago county that are facing the impact of substance use and related mental health challenges, and to provide resources that educate, engage, and empower a life of recovery. In this session, I will share examples of how we support students and the current state of the Fentanyl crisis. Come and ask your questions about substance use disorder and vaping as well.

It will also touch upon how perspective can impact how we, as adults, interact with struggling students. The goal is for you to leave with a better idea about how to interact with struggling students and more tools for your own communication toolbox.  This will meet CEU requirement for Mental Health.

Learn about the basics of the Ojibwe/Dakota heritage of our students and some of the complicated issues that can come up for our students with diverse backgrounds.  Learn about some history lessons to take into account when integrating Native concepts into our lessons or interacting with families from multi-ethnic backgrounds along with time to ask questions.  This session will meet the new CEU requirement for teaching American Indian Culture and History.

 This training program —"More Than Sad" from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention— focuses on teachers' "gatekeeping" skills. Learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and have courageous conversations with students to get them help. This session is designed with the suicide prevention teacher license renewal requirement in mind. ** This is the same session Nic has presented previously. This will meet CEU requirements for Suicide Awareness.
